California owes a lot to Australia when it comes to colorful and/or drought tolerant gardens. Correas are one of those winter blooming plants we can’t do without! These shrubs are evergreen and they display charming small bell flowers on green or variegated leaves. Several varieties are available at Bay Laurel Garden Center.

It’s still time to get the spring blooming bulbs in the ground. We have lots. This year we are selling three different varieties of Allium (ornamental onions). ‘Gladiator’ is 3 to 4 feet tall with large up to 6″ purple flowers. ‘Purple Sensation’, growing 24 to 30″ exhibits bright violet-magenta flowers. ‘Nectaroscordum’ has small, nodding bells – good for naturalizing. Alliums prefer well-draining soil – they are considered to be deer resistant and drought resistant.

And check out our tulips. We have a good assortment. To insure enough chill, store them in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 weeks. There’s still enough time! ‘Dafeng’ is one of the largest – dark orange with yellow stripes. Great stocking stuffers.

Vegetables and herbs are still available at Bay Laurel Garden Center. Plant before the real cold arrives. The 4″ artichokes and rhubarb are great bargains. Also remaining are onion starts and 4 varieties of garlic.

Here’s a berry quiz for you. Name that berry!
Toyon! A wonderful evergreen, native shrub. Very drought tolerant and can grow to 30 feet. Next is the very popular Pyracantha. This tough plant, also evergreen, has serious thorns and berries which can vary from red to orange. Tall and dwarf varieties exist. Last – the deciduous shrub, Hypericum ‘FloralBerry’ The berries are valued for cut flower enthusiasts. We have edible berries as well!

We have irresistible cats ready to home with you!
